The Instagram Brand System is evolving and expanding into new boundaries. this project is to position instagram as the first brand in meta's portfolio to create 3d typography that can be used in marketing, product, agumented reality, mixed reality, and the metaverse.
ROLE:
Creative direction
from 2D to 3D:
the typography is an evolution of our instagram sans font, developed by colophon, with some minor modifications to adapt to the 3d programs capabilities.

the typography is rendered in high poly count to ensure when coding it into our digital products, the code can adjust quality (poly-count) depending on the internet speeds and phones.
inspired by you:
with looped scripts, expressive forms, and diverse characters - the 3d typography mirrors the playfulness and creativity of the very people who uses the platform.
Design
principles:
hand drawn gestures
the continuous and connecting strokes are to pay tribute to the human script.
showcasing loops
loops are the by product of how the typography mimics the human script.
Depth & readibility
the typography has the depth that ensures it can be read over any surfaces.
optically balanced
how the scripts overlay each other has to be optically balanced.
in app:
in collaboration with our 3d artist, manuel rosner, and the instagram product team, we have concept an idea to have our first low lift 3d touchpoint as a 3d days of the week sticker.
marketing:
for our instagram campaign, we have used the instagram sans 3d typography as key visual and highlighted phrase throughout the digital out of the home in NYc, denver, and los angeles.
